FAQ Counseling

A grounded, skills based approach to making progress, feeling competent and finding joy.

How do counseling sessions typically last?

Sessions usually last around 50 minutes.

How often will we meet?

I meet clients weekly. This helps to better build our working relationship and help you work on making changes in real time as you go through life.

Do we meet virtually or in person?

I am seeing clients virtually currently due to COVID and generally for the ease and availability it brings. I use a secure online platform which is hippa compliant for counseling. Currently I use, VSee, Google Meet and the Simple Practice telehealth platforms. Finding a secure comfortable space, having a reliable computer or tablet and headphones help the process run smoothly. Get comfy, bring your favorite beverage or snack and lets get started.

What happens during the first counseling session?

During the first session we will talk about your reasons for starting counseling in more detail. We will go over a general background of many areas of your life (called a biopsychosocial assessment) and we will talk about your goals. Such as- if we were to skip ahead 3 or 6 months say, and counseling did exactly what you need, what would your life look like? Finally we will start with one small area or skill to begin addressing right away. I aim to create hope and energy for the change process.

How long will I need to come to counseling?

It’s hard to say a specific amount of time. It really depends or your goals and other aspects of what you bring to the process. Some people come for a short amount of time and work on a very specific area and move on. Others may come for one reason and keep exploring and improving many more- finding habits of the mind that touch all aspects of life.

How much do sessions cost?

The rate is $150/50 minute session. Any additional time will be billed at the same rate.

This also includes a heartmath inner balance biofeedback sensor and app.

Do you take insurance for counseling?

I do take some major insurances like Cigna, Aetna and Optum. To verify your insurance here. Then, scroll to the bottom and click “see your cost estimate” and enter your insurance info.

If your insurance company is not listed or verified above using the link, I would be considered out of network. This means I collect the full fee each session. It would depend on your insurance company and plan as to how much they will reimburse. I am glad to provide a monthly bill that you can submit for reimbursement. This can be a great way to use your benefits but expand you options in providers.

Verify out of network benefits here.

Do you have evening and weekend appointments available?

Currently my availability daytimes monday-wednesday, and day and evening Thursday-Saturday.

Who do you work with?

I work with current and former athletes and performers driven to excellence in sport and life, who seek to balance achievement and peace. I specialize in working with young adults age 18-35, and love working with anyone on the path to progression.

What if counseling isn't working?

If its not work we will talk about the options moving forward including trying a new approach, adjusting goals and what will be the best path for you moving forward
